Wrap-up of Southeast Asia adventure

Hello!  It’s been about three weeks since I’ve been back in the States…can you believe it?  I swear these last eight months have just flown by!  I still can’t believe I lived, worked and traveled throughout Asia and am now back in the US.  I have so much more to tell you from our adventures abroad but I thought I would do an overall wrap-up post while everything is still fresh in my mind.  This way I can also throw in some posts about job hunting and acclimating back into the general population.  So here goes…

Our last trip to the beach before heading home

  • Total countries visited: Six – Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia
  • Number of beds slept in: 35
    • Plus two planes, an airport bench, a sleeper train, a night bus and a couch
  • Favorite Country – While Thailand will always have a special place in my heart I absolutely fell in love with Cambodia
  • Favorite hotel – Le Divine Comedie, Koh Phangan…private villa worthy of a honeymoon trip, AMAZING
  • Favorite restaurant – Best Beef, Bangkok
  • Favorite beach – Best sand and waves goes to Koh Rong in Cambodia; Best overall experience hands down is Koh Phi Phi in Thailand
  • Best shopping experience – Without a doubt the Weekend Market in Bangkok
  • Best cocktail bar – This is tough but I loved Apoteka and Cheap Charlies on Soi 11 in Bangkok
  • Best “western” meal – Burgers at Firehouse
  • Favorite historical site – Angkor Wat
  • Favorite Wat: This is a toss-up between the Golden Palace and Wat Saket (Golden Mount), both in Bangkok

Overall this was a trip of a lifetime that I got to take with my best friend.  We were able to see and do things I never could have imagined including snorkeling with reef sharks, eating chicken hearts (ew!), watching stunning sunrises and sunsets from across the world, riding and feeding elephants, trekking through jungles and rainforests and just flying by the seat of our pants. It was a bit weird coming back to the US initially, but this experience showed me how fortunate we are here and how much we have.  But we are happy to be home!
